    STZ’UMINUS FIRST NATION – Ladysmith, BC

    Education Assistant

    Stz’uminus is a progressive First Nation Community with a membership of approximately 1,300 people situated on beautiful Vancouver Island between Nanaimo and Ladysmith. Stz’uminus Community School is seeking a qualified Education Assistant for Grades 4-12.

    Responsibilities & Duties:

     Provide instruction, supervision and educational services as assigned, and supply any extra- curricular services as required.

    • Support the instruction of students at SFN education facilities.
    • Follow the British Columbia Curriculum.
    • Incorporate Hulquminum as much as possible into the regular curriculum.
    • Modify material and teaching styles to account for individual needs of the students.
    • Maintain up to date records as required by the SFN Board of Education and the Principal.
    • Support the planning, organization and maintaining of student records effectively.

      Education/Qualifications:

    •   Completion of Dogwood Diploma (Grade 12)
    •   2 year diploma in a related and relevant educational field
    •   Experience with Native culture and children
    •   Previous experience working in an education setting
    •   Criminal Record Check
    •   First Aid
    • Valid Food Safe Certificate
    • Working knowledge of the British Columbia Curriculum
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Ability to work collaboratively with a team.
    • Able to take direction and work independently
    • Able to lead, motivate, encourage and empower students.
    • Be computer literate with special knowledge of educational applications and functions.
